What to Expect at Your First Appointment at The Cat’s Meow Salon

Your guide to visiting our boutique hair salon in Belleville, Ontario.

Walking into a new salon can feel exciting… but also a little intimidating.

You might be wondering:

  • What should I book?

  • Do I need to come with clean hair?

  • What if I don’t know how to explain what I want?

  • Will it feel rushed or overwhelming?

  • What if I’m nervous about making a change?

At The Cat’s Meow Salon, we want your experience to feel welcoming, personalized, relaxed, and clear from the moment you book your appointment.

Whether you’re coming in for a haircut, colour, curls, bridal hair and makeup, or a complete transformation, here’s what you can expect during your first visit with us.


Booking Your Appointment

Most clients book online through our booking system.

You’ll be able to:

  • browse services

  • choose the appointment you’d like

  • view availability

  • request your appointment online

Once your appointment request comes through, Sharon or Kaitlyn will personally review and confirm it.

We know booking a new salon appointment can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure what service to choose. If you’re not completely sure, don’t stress, we can always adjust things during your consultation.

We also include consultations within all appointments, so you don’t need to book a separate consultation service beforehand.


Arriving at the Salon

When you arrive, you can park in our free gravel parking lot located behind the building. We have signs directing you where to park.

A quick note: the side lot is city-owned and they do ticket, so we recommend using one of our designated spots to avoid getting fined.

Once you come in, Sharon or Kaitlyn will greet you, take your coat, and offer you a drink while you settle in.

Our salon is intentionally designed to feel calm, welcoming, and comfortable... not crowded or chaotic.

One thing that makes The Cat’s Meow Salon a little different is that Sharon is the only stylist working in the space. We don’t overcrowd the salon with multiple stylists and large volumes of clients all at once.

While colour appointments may overlap during processing time, we intentionally avoid overbooking.

We want you to feel relaxed, heard, and cared for throughout your visit.


Your Consultation

We believe great hair starts with a great consultation.

For first-time clients especially, we take the time to really understand:

  • your lifestyle

  • your daily routine

  • your styling habits

  • your maintenance preferences

  • your hair history

  • your goals

  • what you love

  • what you don’t love

We’ll also talk about:

  • products you currently use

  • hot tools you use at home

  • how often you realistically want to come into the salon

  • how much styling time you want to spend daily

And yes, we LOVE inspiration photos.

Pinterest boards, screenshots, saved Instagram posts… bring them all.

Photos help us break down the details together so we can make sure we’re aligned before we begin.

But honesty during your consultation is incredibly important too.

If there’s box dye on your hair, previous colour corrections, chemical treatments, extensions, damage, or anything else that may affect the result, we need to know.

Our goal is never to judge, it’s to create the best possible plan for your hair safely and realistically.


Realistic Expectations Matter

One of the biggest priorities at The Cat’s Meow Salon is maintaining the integrity and health of your hair.

That means we’ll always be honest with you about what’s realistically achievable in one appointment.

For example, going from years of dark box dye to platinum blonde in a single visit may not be possible without causing significant damage.

And honestly?


We never want to sacrifice the health of your hair for a rushed result.

Instead, Sharon prefers to guide clients through gradual, customized transformations that leave your hair looking beautiful throughout the process, not compromised afterward.

Healthy hair will always be the goal.


The Service Experience

Once your consultation is complete, we’ll move into your service.

If your appointment includes a shampoo, we’ll select products based on your hair type, texture, scalp condition, and goals using professional Aveda and Monat products.

Your shampoo experience may include:

  • clarifying or detoxifying the scalp

  • customized shampoo and conditioner

  • scalp massage

  • relaxing head and neck massage

Throughout your appointment, we’ll also educate you on:

  • product recommendations

  • styling techniques

  • drying methods

  • hot tool tips

  • how to recreate your style at home

  • ways to improve the health and manageability of your hair

We want you to leave not only loving your hair in the salon, but also feeling more confident caring for it at home.


Before You Come In

A few helpful things to know before your appointment:

For Haircuts

You do not need to wash your hair before your appointment unless you prefer to skip the salon shampoo due to allergies or sensitivities.

If you do have allergies or sensitivities, you’re absolutely welcome to bring your own shampoo and conditioner.

For Colour Appointments

Colour services generally work best on relatively clean hair.

You do not need to wash it the same day, but ideally within a couple of days of your appointment.

Bring Inspiration Photos

The more aligned visual references you bring, the better we can understand your vision together.

Need to Cancel or Reschedule?

Life happens.

If you need to move your appointment, please call us as soon as possible and we’ll happily help you reschedule.


Checking Out & Rebooking

At the end of your appointment, Kaitlyn will help you at the front desk with checkout and rebooking if you’d like to schedule your next visit.

If you’re unsure when you should come back, we’re always happy to recommend a timeline based on your service, goals, and maintenance preferences.

We currently accept:
